Work with me

Fractional Shopify Developer

Custom theme development and storefront engineering for Shopify merchants who have outgrown the online store editor — available on an hourly, project, or retainer basis.

What I do

Every Shopify store is built on code — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Liquid, Shopify's own templating language. The online store editor does a good job of hiding that code, but once your requirements go beyond what your theme's sections and settings can handle, you need someone who can work directly in the theme files.

That's where I come in. I work with the code layer of your Shopify theme to deliver results that aren't possible through the editor alone — whether that's implementing a custom design, building new functionality, or solving a specific technical problem on your storefront.

Types of work
Design implementation
You have a designer's mockup. I build it into your Shopify theme — pixel-accurate, fully functional, and editable in the online store editor where needed.
Custom functionality
Bundle builders, gift card generators, custom engraving UIs, variant selectors, filterable collection pages — bespoke features built into your theme without relying on apps.
Theme work on existing stores
Modifying, extending, or improving an existing Shopify theme. New sections, updated layouts, performance improvements, or resolving specific issues in your theme code.
Full site builds
End-to-end Shopify theme builds from a design file, or from scratch. Less common but available for the right project.
Technical capabilities

The core of Shopify theme development is Liquid, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — the four languages that make up every Shopify storefront. Beyond that, I work regularly with:

Shopify Liquid Online Store 2.0 Sections & Blocks Metafields & Metaobjects Shopify Functions App Blocks Shopify Plus Dawn & custom themes Vanilla JavaScript CSS & animations Storefront performance App replacement with native code

I can also advise on metafield and metaobject structure for your store — how to model custom data so it can be referenced cleanly in your theme — and on which apps are worth keeping versus what can be replaced with leaner native code.

Who I work with
Shopify merchants Direct

Typically 6–9 figure DTC brands who need ongoing Shopify development support without hiring full-time. You send work through as it comes up — I handle it and bill my time. No retainer lock-in required.

Shopify agencies Contract

I work as an embedded developer for Shopify agencies who need additional capacity on client projects. I've worked with Arkhi, Createur, Overdose Digital, Chain Social, and Almond Studio.

The fractional model

Most Shopify merchants at the 6–9 figure stage don't need a full-time developer — but they do need one regularly. There's always something: a new section to build, a custom feature to add, a design to implement, a metafield structure to work out.

The alternative is usually agencies (expensive, slow to mobilise) or installing more apps (adds bloat, costs stack up, rarely exactly right). A fractional arrangement — where you have a dedicated developer available on demand — sits in between. You get someone who knows your store, your codebase, and how you work, without the overhead of a full-time hire.

Several of my current clients work this way. They reach out when something comes up — by email, message, or task in their project management tool — and I handle it. Simple as that.

How to engage
Hourly Most flexible
Monthly retainer Recommended for ongoing work
Fixed price Available for well-scoped projects

For ongoing work, a monthly retainer is the most effective arrangement for both sides — you get predictable access to a developer, I can plan my time properly. For one-off projects with a detailed brief, fixed price is an option. Hourly works well for everything in between.

What I don't do

I work exclusively on Shopify — no other platforms. My focus is the frontend: theme code, storefront functionality, and design implementation. I don't build Shopify apps, manage ad campaigns, handle SEO strategy, or do backend systems work outside of what overlaps with the storefront.

If you're just starting out on Shopify, I'd typically recommend getting comfortable with a good off-the-shelf theme first. Custom development makes the most sense once you're turning over multiple six figures and have specific requirements the editor can't handle.
